After the March 8 deadline, the members of the Scientific Committee received a good number of applications for the scholarship and project competitions. We are pleased to announce the names of the applicants who were approved by the Scientific Committee and the Board of Directors. For the scholarship competition, we received four applications in the postdoctoral fellow category; and four in the graduate student categories (Master’s and Ph.D).
The following students were recommended to the Board by the Scientific Committee and may now start to receive funding:
- Bruno St-Jacques, Master student;
- Hélène Favreau, Ph.D. student;
- Eva Suarthana, Ph.D. student;
- Roberto Castaño, postdoctoral fellow;
- Yuki Sumi, postdoctoral fellow.
We received nine letters of intent for the project competition, all for excellent projects. The Scientific Committee and Board of Directors put seven projects on the priority list. The following projects and researchers were selected:
1. Titre: Impact of the work compensation in Quebec and Ontario on the employment and asthma control of workers with Work Aggravated Asthma Chercheurs: Catherine Lemiere, Lucie Blais, Louis-Philippe Boulet, Gary Liss, Teresa To, Susan Tarlo: University of Montreal, Laval University; Toronto University
2. Titre: Exposure characteristics in vocational schools in carpentry, plastering and plumbing and relationship with exacerbation of asthma at work Chercheurs: Denyse Gautrin, Nicole Goyer, Claire Infante-Rivard, Catherine Lemière, Kim Lavoie, Blain Ditto, Jean-Luc Malo and Brigitte Roberge.
3. Titre : Développement d’une méthodologie de tests de provocation bronchique spécifique par exposition volumétrique et par monitoring constant du calibre bronchique. Chercheurs : Jean-Luc Malo, Yves Cloutier, Simon Caron*.
4. Titre: Does chronic psychological stress enhance autonomic and immune responses to specific antigen challenge in patients with occupational asthma? Chercheurs: Kim Lavoie (PI), Simon Bacon, Manon Labrecque, Karim Maghni, Catherine Lemière, Jean-Luc Malo, Denyse Gautrin, Blaine Ditto.
5. Titre : Évolution de l’asthme en fonction du type de ré-assignation au travail chez les sujets atteints d’asthme professionnel (AP). Chercheurs : Manon Labrecque MD MSc, Jean-Luc Malo MD, Catherine Lemière MD MSc, Karim Maghni PhD, Denyse Gautrin PhD, (Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal) Jules Turcot PhD (CSST) Nicole Goyer , Brigitte Roberge (IRSST).
6. Titre: Structural changes and airway remodeling in occupational asthma 10 years after cessation of exposure to the causative agent. Chercheurs: Q. Hamid, C. Lemière, M. Labrecque, A. Cartier, J.G. Martin, J.L. Malo
7. Titre: Long-term assessment of Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syndrome. Chercheurs : Jean-Luc Malo, Jules Turcot (CSST Québec), Karim Magni, Kim Lavoie, Qutayba Hamid, Jim Martin.
